UN Safety Council Condemns Taliban Ban on Afghan Ladies Working for UN

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) – The U.N. Safety Council unanimously condemned on Thursday a Taliban administration ban on Afghan ladies working for the United Nations in Afghanistan and known as on Taliban leaders to “swiftly reverse” a crackdown on the rights of girls and women.

The decision – drafted by the United Arab Emirates and Japan – describes the ban as “unprecedented within the historical past of the United Nations,” asserts “the indispensable position of girls in Afghan society” and says the ban on Afghan ladies working for the U.N. “undermines human rights and humanitarian rules.”
