Noteworthy items during the Mets’ Grapefruit League action Wednesday:
First of many
Pete Alonso homered in the fourth inning of the Mets’ 3-0 exhibition victory over the Cardinals at Clover Park.
The blast, a solo shot, was Alonso’s first this spring after hitting 46 in the regular season last year.
Walker rebound
After a shaky first outing this spring, Josh Walker pitched a scoreless second inning with two strikeouts. The Mets did not use a starting pitcher, opting for a bullpen game.
Caught my eye
The game, which had only one walk issued (by Mets non-roster invitee Wilkin Ramos in the ninth inning), was played in a tidy 1 hour, 59 minutes.
Thursday’s schedule
The Mets will play their first night game this spring, against the Astros in West Palm Beach, Fla. Jose Quintana is the Mets’ scheduled starting pitcher.
