Why Ariana Grande’s ‘weird Christmas lingerie’ forced the label to cancel her original ‘Santa Tell Me’ music video

Ariana Grande’s original music video for “Santa Tell Me” would’ve landed her on the naughty list.

In a video with Spotify released Tuesday, the 30-year-old “Wicked” star reflected on her 14 songs that have over 1 billion streams on the service, making her the only female artist in Spotify history to achieve this.

Speaking about her 2014 Christmas song “Santa Tell Me,” Grade divulged an unknown fact about the song’s music video.

“Funny story actually,” she said about the released visuals. “It was a backup video we did last minute with like no budget just to have something to put out because the original video, I was in weird Christmas lingerie and I was hitting Santa with a [candy] cane pole,” she explained.

“That was something that I was really insistent on,” she admitted. “I was like ‘That is the right vibe for this song. Believe you me, I know.’

“And the label was like, ‘Hey, honey, I don’t think we can use this.’

“I’m glad I was reeled in that time,” Grande admitted.

Grande released her first Christmas EP under Republic Records, “Christmas Kisses,” in 2013, and her second, more sensual holiday EP “Christmas & Chill” in 2015.

The 2015 EP included a “Naughty Version” of “Santa Tell Me,” with a more explicit bridge.

The original lyrics, “Oh, I wanna have him beside me, like oh-woo-oh / On the 25th, by that fireplace, oh-woo-oh” were spiced up to “Oh, I wanna let him unwrap me, like oh-woo-oh / Get on top of him, by that fireplace, oh-woo-oh.”

The released “Santa Tell Me” video features Grande and friends in a bed wearing furry animal hats, and her dancing with a group of friends in a Christmas crewneck, high socks and reindeer antlers. It has 293 million views.

Fans on X quickly wondered why the original music video wasn’t released with the “Naughty Version” in 2015 — which immediately gave them an idea for their upcoming Christmas list.

“WE NEED THAT VERSION NOW,” one fan demanded.

Grande said her label “reeled in” her ideas for the video. Ariana Grande/YouTube

“RELEASE THE ORIGINAL,” a second screamed. Added another: “Omg it would have been epic.”

The Post has contacted reps for Republic Records for comment.

Grande released her latest single, “Yes, And?” last month. Her seventh studio album, “Eternal Sunshine” is set to be released March 8.
