Vikings rookie Jaren Hall’s first NFL start ends early due to concussion

Vikings rookie quarterback Jaren Hall’s first NFL start Sunday lasted less than one quarter as he suffered a concussion and was ruled out for the rest of the game against the Falcons.

Hall, a 25-year-old fifth-round pick out of BYU, took a big hit near the goal line on a run and his head appeared to hit the ground hard.

Josh Dobbs, whom the Vikings acquired from the Cardinals at the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, replaced Hall, who drew the start after Kirk Cousins suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in a win over the Packers last week.

Dobbs, 28, was the Cardinals’ starter for eight games with Arizona waiting for Kyler Murray to recover from a torn ACL.

With Murray close but not yet ready, the Cardinals decided to start rookie fifth-rounder Clayton Tune at quarterback this week, leading them to part ways with Dobbs on Tuesday.

Dobbs is used to making his debut for a new team on short notice.

Last December, Dobbs started for the Titans eight days after they signed him off the Lions’ practice squad, and in September, he started for the Cardinals 17 days after Arizona acquired him from the Browns in a trade.
