Urgent Alert: Tropical Disturbance Threatens Florida! Get Your Sandbags Now to Stay Safe!
Sanford, Florida – With the ongoing hurricane season seeing increased tropical activity, certain municipalities are taking proactive steps.
Both Seminole County and the city of Sanford have shared information about the availability of sandbags for the upcoming weekend, considering the potential strengthening of Invest 93L on its projected path toward Florida.
While there are uncertainties surrounding this weather system, its potential impact on Florida remains unclear.
Here are the locations where sandbags can be obtained:
SEMINOLE COUNTY
Seminole County will initiate sandbag operations on both Saturday and Sunday, operating from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Boombah Sports Complex.

SANFORD
To help residents prepare for potential effects from the tropical disturbance, the city of Sanford is offering sandbags. Unfilled sandbags and sand can be accessed at 800 W. Fulton Street from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., starting Saturday, August 26, 2023. Bring your own shovel and gloves. Stay informed through sanfordfl.gov.
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS
Sand and bags will be available in Altamonte Springs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both Sunday, August 27, and Monday, August 28. The designated locations are:
- Eastmonte Park, 830 Magnolia Drive
- Westmonte Recreation Center, 624 Bills Lane
Each household is limited to 15 bags, and shovels won’t be provided. Residents are encouraged to keep these bags throughout the hurricane season. Visit the city’s website for more information.
WINTER SPRINGS
On Saturday, August 26, beginning at 8 a.m., sandbags will be distributed at Central Winds Park, located at 1000 Central Winds Drive. Unfilled bags and sand will be available to all Seminole County residents until 7 p.m. or while supplies last. Each household can obtain up to 15 sandbags. Residents must bring their own shovels and gloves, as they are responsible for filling and loading the bags, which can weigh around 35 pounds.

Osceola County, however, has stated that there are no current plans for sandbag distribution.
