UCF’s Javon Baker blows kiss to Oklahoma sideline on touchdown catch, run

Javon Baker made sure Oklahoma remembered his highlight-reel touchdown.

The UCF receiver was wide open down the left sideline during the team’s 31-29 loss on Saturday before hauling in a pass from John Rhys Plumlee for an 86-yard touchdown catch-and-run in the second quarter.

There weren’t any Oklahoma defenders anywhere near Baker, who decided to rub it in as he sprinted toward the end zone.

Baker blew a kiss to the Oklahoma sideline around the 30-yard line as he noticeably slowed down before celebrating in the end zone.

The play helped give UCF a 17-14 lead late in the first half, though Oklahoma later came back to have the last laugh.

Baker was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for his act, which was enforced on the ensuing kickoff.

Baker is in his second season with UCF after transferring from Alabama.

Entering Saturday’s matchup, Baker had recorded 21 receptions for 417 yards and two touchdowns on the season.

UCF entered at 17.5-point underdogs against the No. 6-ranked Sooners, sitting second-to-last in the Big 12 at 3-3 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

This season is the program’s first in the Big 12 and head coach Gus Malzahn’s third year in charge.

“I still think we have a good team,” Malzahn told reporters earlier this week prior to the game. “We just need to play good football, and I think we’re ready to do that.”

After playing his first two seasons at Alabama, Baker originally transferred to Kentucky before later joining UCF.

He indicated that decision was made by Kentucky, not himself, at the time.

“Guess they did decommit me,” Baker captioned an Instagram post at the time, per the Courier-Journal. “…I wanted to play for Kentucky. Bigger and better plans the most high got me.”

A former four-star recruit, Baker struggled to carve out a significant role while at Alabama.

With the Crimson Tide, Baker recorded nine total receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown.
