Trump skewers ‘incompetent’ Biden, says Democrats ‘destroyed’ US-Mexico border in Hannity interview

Donald Trump put President Biden on blast Thursday for his handling of border security, calling him “incompetent” and blaming his administration for the migrant crisis.
The former president sat down with Fox News’ Sean Hannity Thursday night after touring the southern border in Eagle Pass, Texas with Gov. Greg Abbott and said the Biden administration’s policies have left the US with the “worst border ever in the history of the world.”
Democrats have “destroyed this border and they’re in the process of destroying our country. We’re allowing people in our country that we shouldn’t have,” Trump said. “And we are allowing an extraordinarily tough group of people into our country.”
The Republican presidential frontrunner likened the situation in Texas to a “warzone”
He also took a shot at Biden — who himself was visiting the border in Brownsville, Texas, some 325 miles away — for reversing immigrant policies he had put in place, calling him “the most incompetent president we’ve ever had.”
Trump claimed Biden only decided to take a trip to the border after he heard he was going.
“All of a sudden, they announced that they’re coming,” Trump said. “But they went to the wrong area. They went to an area that the governor and myself have done a good job on. And there’s essentially nobody coming through.”
Brownsville sees significantly less illegal border crossings than Eagle Pass, which is one of the most popular destinations for migrants looking to get into the US.
To deal with the migrant crisis, Trump told Hannity he would round up migrants by the thousands via local police and deport them to their home countries.
Local police “understand who these migrants are. They know them by their first name, their last name. They know where they come from,” Trump said.
Cops would then turn the migrants over to federal authorities for deportation, he added.
Earlier in the day, the Texas National Guard showed the former president razor wires erected in a local park to thwart migrants from crossing the Rio Grande into the US.
Gov. Abbott, who joined Trump for the interview, told Hannity that such measures have forced migrants to cross through Arizona and California.
“Just four years ago under President Trump, we had the lowest illegal immigration in 45 years, because he put in place policies that prohibited illegal immigration,” Abbott said. “And then Joe Biden comes in and eliminates all of those policies.”
In Brownsville, Biden urged Congress to approve a bipartisan supplemental spending bill that he said offered “more resources” to address the crisis.
“We can’t wait any longer,” Biden told reporters. “Months ago, my team began a serious negotiation with a bipartisan group of senators … it resulted in a compromise bill, it was the toughest set of border security reforms we’ve ever seen in this country.”
Biden called out Trump by name and said he should stop “playing politics with this issue.”
