Teen pilot killed in Australia plane crash: ‘It doesn’t look good’

A teenage pilot has been killed when the light plane he was flying crashed in Sydney’s southwest, shattering the aircraft.

The 16-year-old boy reportedly lost contact with air traffic control shortly after radioing for permission to land about 3 pm on Wednesday, near Camden in Sydney’s southwest.

Another pilot flying overhead saw the wreckage and called it in.

“I think we’ve got an airplane on the ground here Dennis … It doesn’t look good,” the second pilot is heard saying in radio audio obtained by Nine.

“Mate, it doesn’t even look like an airplane, unfortunately.”

Emergency services were called to Brownlow Hill Loop Rd in Brownlow Hill following reports the Cessna plane from a nearby flying school had crashed.

The pilot and sole occupant of the plane – believed to be a 16-year-old boy – died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

The Cessna aircraft, which crashed just five miles from Camden Airport, is believed to be from a local flying school.

Images taken of the wreckage show the aircraft has been left unrecognizable by the crash.

Police have cordoned off the paddock where the shattered plane lies, establishing a crime scene which is being forensically examined.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified and has begun an investigation into the circumstance surrounding the crash.
