The laughs will have to wait.
Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show” will remain on hiatus for another week as the host continues to recover from a ruptured appendix.
“I’m listening to my doctors and continuing to rest and heal. Thank you for all your well wishes and I’ll see you soon,” Colbert, 59, wrote on Threads Sunday.
On Monday, CBS confirmed that Colbert’s time slots would be filled with several repeat shows.
According to Deadline, Colbert was supposed to interview Sarah Paulson, Jason Isbell, Mark Ruffalo, Nicki Minaj, Sara Bareilles and Rep. Liz Cheney on the canceled episodes.
The Post reached out ot Colbert for comment.
The latest update comes after the comedian revealed that his appendix had ruptured over the Thanksgiving holiday.
“Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week,” he wrote via a post on the his show’s official Instagram on Nov. 27. “I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’ Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix.”
“I’m grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me,” the post continued, referring to his wife Evelyn “Evie” McGee Colbert, whom he married in 1993. “Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, a ruptured appendix or appendicitis occurs when a blockage in the lining of the appendix causes an infection and then causes the finger-like pouch to become inflamed, swollen and filled with pus.
While appendicitis could theoretically happen to anyone, it’s more common to be found in those aged 10 to 30 years old.
In October, viewers were once again thrown for a loop when Colbert decided to do his show from his house after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
“MEANWHILE… ‘The Late Show’ will look a little bit different tonight because Stephen is At Home with Covid (he’s ok!),” a post read on both the program’s Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) account at the time. “But be sure to tune in as the show will go on remotely with Monologue, Meanwhile, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Ricky Velez. #whatyearisit?”
As of now, the show is set to return next week with Colbert back in the studio.
