Shohei Ohtani plane drama came with ‘Shark Tank’ star wrinkle, perfect response

There was a fascinating plot twist in the erroneous report that Shohei Ohtani was on a private jet headed from Los Angeles to Toronto.
The actual occupant of the plane was revealed to be Robert Herjavec, the Canadian entrepreneur who is famously an investor on ABC’s “Shark Tank.”
Herjavec had some fun with the mixup, posting a photo on Instagram of him sporting a Blue Jays uniform with a cheeky caption.
“I’d like to thank the @bluejays organization for signing me today!” Herjavec wrote in the caption.
“All joking aside – I’m not @shoheiohtani and he was not on my plane today ! Not sure how it all started but I’m calling the jays and seeing if they’ll sign my 5 year old for 600 mil (he WAS on the plane and throws a mean pitch).”
Ohtani, 29, hit 44 home runs and had a 1.066 OPS last season.
While he isn’t going to be able to pitch in 2024 after undergoing elbow surgery, he will be available as a hitter next season and expects to return to pitching in 2025.
The Ohtani sweepstakes has been an MLB free agency story unlike others in quite some time, and reporters are jockeying for position fighting tooth and nail to get the scoop about where he will land.
Friday, the story reached a fever pitch when MLB Network insider Jon Morosi tweeted that Ohtani was “en route to Toronto today.”
Several other MLB reporters, including The Post’s Jon Heyman, said that this was inaccurate and that Ohtani remained at his home in Southern California.
Friday night, Morosi issued a mea culpa.
“Today, I posted reporting that included inaccurate information that Shohei Ohtani was traveling to Toronto,” he tweeted. “I regret the mistake and apologize to baseball fans everywhere. I am deeply sorry for letting you down.”
The Dodgers, Cubs, Blue Jays and Giants are believed to be the finalist to land Ohtani.
