Sean McVay makes decision on 2024 Rams return

Sean McVay isn’t ready to walk away from the Rams just yet.

After retirement rumors swirled around McVay the last couple of years, the 37-year-old committed to remaining Los Angeles’ head coach for an eighth season in 2024.

On “The Coach McVay Show,” he told host J.B. Long that he “can promise” the show will continue next season, meaning he’ll be back in the saddle as he tries to become the winningest head coach in franchise history.

The Rams (9-7) clinched a playoff spot after their win over the Giants on Sunday, their sixth win in seven games after a 3-6 start.

McVay, who led the Rams to a Super Bowl victory two seasons ago, has 69 regular-season wins, six behind John Robinson for the most in Rams history; his seven playoff wins are already the most ever by a Rams coach.

McVay, who also took the Rams to the Super Bowl five seasons ago when they lost to the Patriots, and general manager Les Snead both agreed to contract extensions before the 2022 campaign that keeps both with the Rams through the 2026 season.

He first put his future in doubt after the Super Bowl win, saying “we’ll see” when asked if he’d be back for the 2022 season.

The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported after the Super Bowl win that Amazon Prime Video was preparing to offer up to five years and $100 million for McVay to be an analyst on “Thursday Night Football,” and Fox also had interest in him, but he decided to return to the Rams.

The team then had by far their worst season since McVay became the youngest head coach in NFL history in 2017, finishing 5-12; Los Angeles had a winning record in each of his first five seasons, including double-digit wins in four of those years.

McVay’s wife, Veronika Khomyn, gave birth to the couple’s first child, son Jordan, in October.

But for now, McVay will forge ahead with the Rams, who can clinch the No. 6 seed with a win over the 49ers on Sunday but could fall to No. 7 with a loss.
