Scott Mayfield ruled day-to-day with lower-body injury in latest Islanders concern

Scott Mayfield can’t seem to catch a break this season.

Mayfield, who missed Saturday’s game against the Lightning, was declared day-to-day with a lower-body injury by the Islanders, marking the third time this season he is out with an injury.

The first of those came after blocking a shot off his ankle on opening night, which Mayfield told The Post last week did not fully heal until the All-Star break.

The second came with an upper-body issue in November.

It is not clear when Mayfield might have gotten hurt during Thursday’s 4-0 loss to the Blues, as he played throughout the third period.

Sebastian Aho slotted into Mayfield’s usual spot to Mike Reilly’s right on Saturday in his first game since the All-Star break.

Casey Cizikas, who missed Thursday’s game against St. Louis with a presumed hand injury, was back in after a better-than-expected prognosis upon the team’s return to New York.
