Retired cop shoots machete-wielding man in Staten Island road rage spat: sources

A retired NYPD cop shot a man who threatened him with a machete in a broad-daylight road rage incident on Staten Island Wednesday, law enforcement sources said. 

A 50-year-old, blade-wielding man confronted the 45-year-old former officer just before 9:30 a.m. at Grantwood Avenue and Carlton Boulevard in Annadale, authorities and sources said. 

In response, the ex-officer pulled out a gun and shot the man in the chest on the tree-lined, residential block, cops said. 

The violent confrontation began when a 50-year-old man whipped out a machete, cops said.

The wounded man was taken to Staten Island University Hospital, where his condition was not immediately known. 

The shooter stayed at the scene, and no one was immediately charged.

The investigation was ongoing in the early afternoon, cops said.
