Porn star Sophia Leone’s death has been cryptically labeled by cops as being “suspicious” and “unique” — but is not being investigated as a “robbery and homicide,” as her modeling agency publicly claimed.
The body of the 26-year-old adult film actress had no visible signs of trauma when it was found inside her New Mexico apartment on March 1, Albuquerque police told TMZ.
While the official cause remains unknown, it is being treated as a “suspicious death,” a police spokesperson told the outlet, without detailing why.
However, the rep stressed that it had never indicated that it was being investigated as either robbery or homicide, despite Leone’s agency earlier stating confidently that it was being investigated as such.
“We do not know at this time if she is a victim of a crime, so this is a unique situation,” the police rep said.
The official determination of a cause of death was awaiting toxicology test results, the spokesperson told TMZ, without saying if the actress’ death appeared to be drug-related.
The report contradicted a message by California-based 101 Modeling, which handled some of Leone’s bookings, which wrote on X Saturday that the “death is being investigated as a robbery and homicide.”
In a tragic last Instagram post dated last September, Leone encouraged her 300,000 followers to “go outside and just appreciate life a little extra today.”
The Miami native broke into the adult film industry in 2014 and starred in over 80 films, according to her IMDb page.
Leone’s stepfather, Mike Romero, wrote of the family’s shock and devastation in the description of a GoFundMe fundraiser, which so far has raked in nearly $15,000 in donations.
“Sophia was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and friend. She had a deep love for all animals, specifically her 3 pets. She enjoyed traveling and always found ways to make everyone around her smile,” Romero said.
