Pavement bandmate Stephen Malkmus mourns drummer

Gary Younger, the unique drummer for the indie rock band Pavement, has died. He was 70.

“Gary Younger handed on right now,” Stephen Malkmus, the lead singer of the Stockton-born band, posted on X, previously Twitter, on Thursday. “Gary’s pavement drums had been ‘one take and hit file’…. Nailed it so nicely.”

The band’s verified Instagram account shared a message on Younger’s passing that learn: “Garrit Allan Robertson Younger put Pavement on the map. He recorded all of our data from the ‘Slay Observe’s 7 by means of to the ‘Watery, Home’ EP. He did all of it in his storage, a studio referred to as Louder Than You Assume.”
