Overnight snowfall brought nearly 10 inches to parts of NYC, only 2 to others

A quick-moving snowstorm early Saturday dropped unexpected — and unequal — amounts of powder across the Big Apple.

A whopping 8.9 inches of snow was reported in Coney Island while only 2.7 inches were recorded at LaGuardia Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

“It was a pretty stark gradient — well above what was forecast — due in part to this narrow band of snow that fell west of Allentown (Pennsylvania) all the way to the Jersey Shore,” Fox Weather meteorologist Cody Braud told The Post.

“These snow bands, the real intense ones, can be difficult to forecast,” he added.

Central Park saw 2 inches while 5 fell near Bay Ridge and 6.1 inches landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Initial forecasts only called for an inch or two of snow.

Over a dozen snow squall warnings were issued for parts of New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, where some of the mini blizzards that can drop several inches per hour hit.

Aside from the squalls, the flurried system dropped snow on at least 10 states, from Ohio to Connecticut overnight.

No more surprises are in store for the Big Apple headed into the work week. It is expected to be clear with temperatures remaining in the low- to mid-40s and no threat of precipitation until late Thursday or Friday when rain or more snow may roll in, Braud said.
