NFL Power Rankings for Week 12: Eagles show they’re ready for another Super Bowl run
[ad_1]
The Philadelphia Eagles don’t get Super Bowl rings for winning Monday night.
The Eagles rallied from a 10-point deficit and outlasted the Chiefs, 21-17, in a much-anticipated Super Bowl LVII rematch – and potential Super Bowl LVIII preview – in Kansas City.
What does it mean? Can Eagles center Jason Kelce brag a little over his brother, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, on their joint “New Heights” podcast? Can Eagles cornerback James Bradberry be forgiven for his costly late-game penalty in the Super Bowl? Does Taylor Swift need to cancel the rest of her tour to be the Chiefs’ good luck charm?
Maybe, though the Chiefs know the stakes of their head-to-head win over the Eagles last February were much higher than anything a “Monday Night Football” game in Week 11 can produce.
Unless the ultimate prize in football is the No. 1 spot in The Post’s power rankings for Week 12. Then the Eagles are the kings of the NFL.
1. Eagles 9-1
Two players who were not part of the Super Bowl made a big difference. D’Andre Swift rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown, and Kevin Byard intercepted a pass in the end zone. Jalen Hurts ran for two touchdowns and made the one big throw he needed to – a 41-yarder to DeVonta Smith. The Eagles somehow survived allowing five sacks.
2. Chiefs 7-3
Once again, it was clear that the Chiefs do not have enough receivers to complement Travis Kelce. Marques Valdes-Scantling dropped a touchdown and Justin Watson dropped a would-be fourth-and-25 conversion on the final drive. Andy Reid fell to 21-4 after a bye week as the Chiefs didn’t score in the second half for the third straight game.
3. Lions 8-2
Trailing by 12, the Lions scored two touchdowns and added a safety in the final three minutes to steal a 31-26 victory from the Bears. Jared Goff overcame three interceptions, and David Montgomery scored the go-ahead touchdown against his former team with 27 seconds to go. The Lions are off to their best 10-game start since 1962.
4. Dolphins 7-3
Jalen Ramsey grabbed two interceptions, including one in the end zone with 22 seconds remaining to seal a 20-13 victory against the Raiders. Ramsey missed the first seven games of the season with an injury but has three takeaways in three games since returning. Tyreek Hill recorded 10 catches for 146 yards and his NFL-best eighth touchdown reception.
5. 49ers 7-3
Not Joe Montana, not Steve Young, not Jeff Garcia. The first quarterback in 49ers history to post a perfect quarterback rating in a game (158.3) with at least 20 pass attempts is Brock Purdy, who completed 21-of-25 passes for 333 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-14 win against the Buccaneers. Brandon Aiyuk notched 156 receiving yards.
6. Ravens 8-3
How dominant are the Ravens? They have trailed for a total of 32 minutes and 15 seconds. Only the 1998 Broncos spent less time trailing over the first 11 games. But not everything is breaking the Ravens’ way – top target Mark Andrews suffered a likely season-ending injury in a 27-13 win against the Bengals. Lamar Jackson found two others for touchdowns
7. Jaguars 7-3
Trevor Lawrence became the first player in franchise history with two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns in the same game during a 34-14 demolition of the Titans. Both scores through the air landed in Calvin Ridley’s hands. The Jaguars, who scored on five straight possessions, had lost three of four games at home.
8. Cowboys 7-3
DaRon Bland tied an NFL record with his fourth pick-six of the season as the Cowboys routed the Panthers, 33-10, to win for the fourth time in five games. In addition to scoring a touchdown, the defense tallied seven sacks and allowed just 187 yards. Dak Prescott threw for two touchdowns and Tony Pollard ran for one.
9. Browns 7-3
The Browns’ fast start has been fueled more by the defense than the quarterback. So Deshaun Watson’s season-ending injury is significant, but not insurmountable. Rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw for 165 yards and led the game-winning drive to set up Dustin Hopkins’ 34-yard walk-off field goal in a 13-10 win against the Steelers. Myles Garrett had two sacks.
10. Texans 6-4
C.J. Stroud didn’t play like an MVP candidate or the Offensive Rookie of the Year in throwing three interceptions. And the Texans still defeated the Cardinals, 21-16, despite not scoring in the second half. Credit the defense for two fourth-down stops and the special teams for a takeaway – all in the fourth quarter to cement a third straight victory.
11. Bills 6-4
12. Steelers 6-4
13. Seahawks 6-4
14. Broncos 5-5
15. Vikings 6-4
16. Bengals 5-5
17. Saints 5-5
18. Colts 5-5
19. Raiders 5-6
20. Packers 4-6
21. Chargers 4-6
22. Rams 4-6
23. Buccaneers 4-6
24. Jets 4-6
Can you explain again why Aaron Rodgers is rushing back from a torn Achilles to this mess? The Jets’ benching of Zach Wilson for Tim Boyle is too little, too late. Even the vaunted defense fell flat. Hey, at least they scored a touchdown for the first time in 42 offensive possessions.
25. Falcons 4-6
26. Bears 3-8
27. Titans 3-7
28. Giants 3-8
If only the Giants could play the Commanders every week of the season. Undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito became the first Giants quarterback to pass for three touchdowns in a game since Dec. 22, 2019, and the defense and special teams combined for six takeaways, including Isaiah Simmons’ pick-six, to complete a season sweep of Washington with a 31-19 win.
29. Cardinals 2-9
30. Patriots 2-8
31. Commanders 4-7
32. Panthers 1-9
