MLB claims pants materials haven’t changed on heavily ridiculed new uniforms

MLB claimed that not much has changed in the pants of their widely condemned new uniforms.

The new Nike-designed and Fanatics-produced jerseys have come under immense criticism for myriad reasons, but most notably for the pants having a see-through quality to them.

In pictures that went viral on Thursday, Giants infielder Casey Schmitt’s groin region was visible through his pants while he was wearing the new uniform and posing for the team’s photo day.

Casey Schmitt’s pants appeared to be somewhat see-through during the Giants’ photo day.

Elsewhere, the Mariners posted a video in which catcher Cal Raleigh’s top could be seen through his pants.

“The uniform pants have the same material and thickness as the uniform pants used last season,” MLB told the Wall Street Journal in a statement. “There were changes to the fabric of the jersey, not the pants.”

There have been changes to the style and sizing of the pants, however.

To that end, Yankees reliever Tommy Kahnle said that the pants are noticeably tighter this year.

“Even I thought the last few years they haven’t been as stretchy,” Kahnle told The Post’s Greg Joyce. “But definitely this year you can notice the fabric is just a little tighter than we’re used to.

“I think the consensus is they’re not too great. … I know a lot of the guys don’t really like them.”

The uniform tops have been ridiculed as well, and Mets star Francisco Lindor told The Post’s Mike Pujma that the players’ names “look kind of small.”

In other instances, players have noticed the stitching on their tops is not the same as their teammates.

“It’s disappointing that we’ve landed in a place where the uniforms are the topic of discussion,” MLB Players Association executive director Clark said Thursday, per ESPN. “Each conversation with the guys is yielding more information with what we’re seeing.

“A lot of the rhetoric is confirmation that the pants are see-through. It’s been an ongoing conversation where each day has yielded something new that doesn’t seem to make as much sense as you would like it.”
