Matt Rempe staying out of Rangers’ lineup vs. Jets despite suspension being over

Rempe-mania is still on pause.

The Rangers are expected to take the ice against the Jets Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden with the same 12 forwards as the previous four games, which leaves Matt Rempe as a healthy scratch.

Tuesday marked the first game Rempe was eligible to play in after he served a four-game suspension for elbowing the Devils’ Jonas Siegenthaler in the head.

Considering the fact that the Rangers have won three of their last four contests with the same personnel, Peter Laviolette opted to stick with the group, but the head coach assured Rempe would play again down the line.

“We now have 13 forwards available,” Laviolette said after morning skate in Tarrytown. “And so, for me, the 13 forwards here, I do want to keep them all in play. So I am going to make some decisions down the stretch here, just to make sure that guys are in the lineup. I do think that Rempe has played well.

“He’s brought certain things to our team and he’s played a physical role. He’s played the game well. He’ll be back in there. Just coming off of the last game and the way we played, specifically how that bottom six played, just found it was best to come back with the same lineup. I am going to move guys around. It won’t be because somebody is getting scratched. It’ll be just because we’re going to keep 13 players, we’re going to get ourselves playoff ready.”

As a result, Jonny Brodzinski is projected to remain in the lineup on the left wing of the third line alongside Alex Wennberg and Kaapo Kakko.

In 10 games, Rempe has made a name for himself in the NHL with his earth-shattering hits and fists.

He’s racked up one goal, one assist, 54 penalty minutes and two ejections.
