SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Singapore-based Silicon Field opened a $2 billion superior semiconductor manufacturing foundry within the city-state on Thursday, because it seeks to broaden adoption of “chiplet” know-how.

The two-year previous startup stated in a press release that the 73,000-square metre manufacturing facility would create over 1,000 jobs with help from Singapore’s Financial Growth board.

Silicon Field was created by the founders of U.S chipmaker Marvell, Sehat Sutardja and spouse Weili Dai, together with present CEO BJ Han.

Silicon Field focuses on “chiplets”, or small chips, which might be the scale of a grain of sand and are introduced collectively in a course of referred to as superior packaging, a cost-efficient method to bind small semiconductors into type one processor that may energy every thing from knowledge centres to family home equipment.

The worldwide chip business has more and more embraced the know-how lately as chip manufacturing prices soar within the race to make transistors sufficiently small to be measured within the variety of atoms.
