Noteworthy items during the Mets’ Grapefruit League action Friday:

On the mark

Mark Vientos homered to right field in the second inning of the Mets’ 3-2 exhibition loss to the Cardinals in Jupiter, Fla.

The blast was Vientos’ first this spring, placing him ahead of third-base competition Brett Baty in that category.

Sanchez flub

Yolmer Sanchez, starting at second base, was charged for a throwing error in the first inning.

The ball got stuck in his glove and he never got a firm grip, rolling it to first base. Sanchez’s error was his second this spring.

Caught my eye

Starling Marte bunted for a single to begin the game and unleashed a strong throw from right field in the bottom of the inning to nail Dylan Carlson attempting to reach third on a tag-up play.

Saturday’s schedule

Sean Manaea is lined up to pitch against the Marlins in Jupiter, Fla.
