The “Queen of Christmas” reigned supreme at the 2023 Billboard Awards.
Mariah Carey brought the holiday spirit to the stage with a Aspen-inspired performance of her record-breaking hit “All I Want for Christmas is You” on Sunday.
Her performance marked the first time the “Vision of Love” singer performed her modern holiday classic at an awards show.
Carey, 54, made her way onto the stage by slowly being dropped down by a ski lift. Dressed in a white knee-length dress, she belted out the tune as her dancers skated around her with fake snow.
The singer was joined onstage by her twins — son Moroccan and daughter Monroe, 12, who she shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon. The siblings danced from their seats at the side of the set.
“I love it,” Carey told Access prior to the show. “I love seeing them stepping into this performance space, this music space, and the fact that they’re eager to do it, that’s on them.”.
“I never say ‘you guys gotta do this,’ you know?” she added. “It’s whatever they want to do and they’re rehearsing for it and going for it and really working hard, so that’s impressive to me.”
In addition to Carey, the crowd enjoyed performances by Tate McRae, Wallen, David Guetta and Bebe Rexha, Karol G, Stray Kids, NewJeans and Peso Pluma.
The “Queen of Christmas” could also be considered the “Queen of Billboard” as she holds the record for the solo artist with the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, with 19 chart-toppers.
Carey has also had 18 top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, including six No. 1 albums (“Mariah Carey,” “Music Box,” “Daydream,” “Butterfly,” “The Emancipation of Mimi” and “E=MC2”).
On Sunday night, the five-time Grammy Award winner was also honored with the Billboard Chart Achievement Award for “All I Want for Christmas is You,” which has climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart every year since 2019.
