Left-wing Colorado activists opposing Biden launch ‘Vote Non-committed’ campaign ahead of Super Tuesday primary

Colorado activists are urging Democratic voters to cast “non-committed” ballots in the state’s primary election next week to show their opposition to President Biden’s support for Israel’s war against Hamas. 

The campaign, spearheaded by the Colorado Palestine Coalition and local chapters of the Democratic Socialists of America, comes after more than 100,000 “uncommitted” votes were cast in Michigan’s Democratic primary election earlier this week in protest of Biden’s handling of the conflict in Gaza.

“With less than one week remaining to submit Federal Democratic Primary ballots and inspired by the success of Michigan, we are launching our own noncommitted campaign,” the Colorado Palestine Coalition wrote on X.

“Colorado has the opportunity on March 5th to send a message to Genocide Joe that we will not remain silent while he aids & abets Israel’s genocide of the Paletinian people & demand an immediate, permanent ceasefire, halt military aid to Israel, & support an end to the occupation!” the tweet continued. 

The activist group’s website argues the protests against the war in Gaza have been “largely ignored” by Democrats and that an “increasing number of Arab voters, Muslim voters, young voters, and voters of color” no longer feel that the Biden administration represents their values. 

“Our votes must be earned by immediate and drastic policy changes from the Biden Administration,” the  Colorado Palestine Coalition’s “vote non-committed” webpage reads, asking supporters to sign onto a pledge sponsored by the Denver chapter of the  Democratic Socialists of America. 

The pledge only had a couple hundred signatures as of Thursday afternoon. 

If at least 15% of voters cast ballots for “non-committed” in any Colorado congressional district, it will be allocated one of the 72 delegates up for grabs on March 5. 

In Michigan, “uncommitted” secured 2 delegates for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago after 13.2% of voters state-wide casted “uncommitted” ballots in the state’s Democratic primary.

Organizers of the so-called  “Listen to Michigan” campaign called their movement a success, after previously setting a modest goal of getting 10,000 voters to mark themselves “uncommitted” — a reference to the margin by which former President Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the state in 2016. 

The Colorado “non-committed” campaign has not stated the goal that it hopes to reach next week.
