Jets’ Davante Adams hopes all but wrecked: ‘He’s a Raider’

INDIANAPOLIS – The Jets chased Davante Adams at the trade deadline last season and were expected to make a push to acquire Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target this offseason.

But it does not sound like the Raiders have any desire to move their star wide receiver.

New Raiders general manager Tom Telesco was asked what his response would be to any inquiries about acquiring Adams via trade this week.

“He’s a Raider,” Telesco said Tuesday at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.

There have been plenty of instances where a team says they are not willing to trade a player and then turn around and deal said player, but it feels like the Raiders intend on keeping Adams.

The team hired Telesco as its new GM and made Antonio Pierce its full-time head coach after he served as the interim in the final two months of last season.

Adams was vocal in his support for Pierce and his hope that he would land the permanent gig. The fact that Mark Davis did tap Pierce should make Adams happy.

The Raiders then hired Luke Getsy as their new offensive coordinator.

Getsy was on the Packers staff for seven seasons when Adams played there, including two as wide receivers coach and two more as passing game coordinator.

It would seem the Getsy hire was something done with Adams partially in mind.

“That was a good feeling knowing a guy that I’ve worked with,” Adams told ESPN. “I know how he works, I know how his mind works and we’ve had success together. So it’s definitely exciting.”

The connection between the Jets and Adams is an obvious one to make because of Rodgers. The two spent eight years together with the Packers and formed a terrific tandem.

The Packers traded Adams to the Raiders in 2022.

Adams was frustrated early last season as the Raiders offense struggled.

That led to the Jets trying hard to trade for him before the midseason trade deadline but then-GM Dave Ziegler did not want to deal Adams.

Ziegler and coach Josh McDaniels were fired right after the trade deadline, and the Jets were expected to make another run at Adams this offseason to pair him with Garrett Wilson as targets for Rodgers.

It seems unlikely now that Adams will be on the trading block and the Jets will have to look elsewhere for receiving help.
