Israel’s air force strikes Syria as payback for rocket attacks

Israeli air forces carried out airstrikes against military targets in Syria in response to rocket launches from the hostile neighboring country, the military said.

Israel Defense Forces shared a short video on X Sunday showing a fighter jet bombing what was described as “military infrastructure in Syrian territory.”

The airstrikes were directed at two army posts in the southwestern city of Daraa, near the Jordanian border, Syrian state TV confirmed Monday.

The raids led to “some material losses,” according to Syria’s Defense Ministry.

The goal of the early-morning attack was to destroy rocket launchers that had been used to fire into open Israeli territory Saturday, Israel’s military stated. No casualties have been reported.

Meanwhile, airstrikes directed at a convoy of trucks entering eastern Syria from Iraq early Monday destroyed several vehicles and killed at least three people, according to Syrian opposition activists and a Lebanese TV station.

It was not immediately known who carried out the attack, said Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

However, Omar Abu Layla, a Europe-based activist who heads the Deir Ezzor 24 media outlet, said US warplanes were responsible for the raid, “in retaliation for attacks on US bases,” adding that the trucks were transporting weapons for Iran-backed militias.

Al-Mayadeen TV in Beirut also reported that American aircraft carried out the attack, but claimed that the trucks were carrying construction material.

The airstrikes came after the Pentagon announced Thursday that it had bombed two sites inside Syria used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in retaliation for a barrage of drone and missile attacks against American bases and troops in the region that began a week earlier.
