‘I am not getting executed’: NYC project manager wrongly ID’ed as death row inmate by Kim Kardashian speaks out

It’s a long way from a death sentence.

A New York project manager had to tell his friends he was not being executed on Monday after reality star Kim Kardashian mistakenly identified him as a death row inmate who happens to share his name.

Ivan A. Cantu took to Facebook to alert his friends that he was not on death row but had been misidentified by Kardashian, who incorrectly shared a photo of him with her 364 million Instagram followers instead of a picture of the Ivan A. Cantu who is set to be executed Wednesday in Texas.

“To all my friends and family, I am not getting executed, some idiot who runs @kimkardashian used my picture instead of Ivan ‘Abner’ Cantu,” the project manager wrote on Facebook.

The father told TMZ he had learned of the mix-up from his family — and initially thought they were pulling a prank on him as Monday was his 60th birthday.

Ivan A. Cantu took to Facebook to alert his friends that he was not actually on death row.

Friends of Cantu seemed to find some humor in the situation, with many wishing him a happy birthday in the comment section of his post.

While Cantu told TMZ he wouldn’t say no to an apology after the major flub, the post was eventually removed from Kardashian’s social media and replaced with an op-ed from the Austin American-Statesmen about the death row inmate’s case.

The 43-year-old Skims founder, who once dreamed of becoming a lawyer, also shared a text message campaign with her followers advocating to delay the inmate’s execution on Wednesday.

The inmate Cantu was found guilty by a jury of the 2000 murder of his cousin, James Mosqueda, 27, and Amy Kitchen, Mosqueda’s 22-year-old fiancée, though he has long maintained his innocence, claiming a rival drug dealer killed his cousin.

His execution by lethal injection had been postponed twice already, once in 2012 and in 2023.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals later rejected a request for an evidentiary hearing and set his new execution date for Wednesday.
