How many can you name? A whopping 40 A-list celebs grace Vogue’s March issue cover

The former editor-in-chief of British Vogue stepped down from his role with the tour de force — by showcasing a farewell March cover of 40 legendary women.

It’s rumored that Edward Enninful, 51, who was the top editor at British Vogue for over six years, left his role after failing to take Anna Wintour’s spot as the head of the U.S. version of Condé Nast’s fashion bible, according to a report in The Sunday Times. He stayed on at Condé Nast, where he’s worked for over 25 years, and took a role as Vogue’s global creative and cultural adviser.

For Enninful’s glamorous swan song, more than three dozen cover stars from throughout his time at the magazine gathered in a Manhattan studio one day in December for a once-in-a-lifetime photoshoot with legendary fashion photographer Steven Meisel and his protege photographer Ned Rogers. Hair creative director Guido Palau and team, as well as makeup artist Pat McGrath and crew, created the spectacular looks.

Enninful’s all-star group included models, Hollywood actors, musicians, execs and mothers and daughters from all over the globe.

“So here it is: my 76th and final edition of Vogue, six and a half years and 153 cover stars later, including the 40 legendary women who feature on this cover. It’s been an extraordinary ride and an absolute honor,” Enninful, who made history as the first gay black man to helm the UK-based publication, said in his final letter from the editor.

“As I step into my new role, as Condé Nast’s global creative and cultural advisor for Vogue, I’m determined to keep championing the incredible array of voices in fashion and media, and ensure we keep the energy explosion of the last few years going. We always say it, because it always needs to be said: there is a great deal yet to be done,” he added.

Enninful said he knew his last issue would honor women who he gushed “shaped British Vogue for close to 108 years now.”
