Grandma, 74, assaulted by JetBlue flight crew over teacup, left with black eye: suit

It was a tempest over a teacup.

A JetBlue passenger claims she was accosted by the flight crew after trying to dispose of her teacup and spoon.

Angela Siddell was flying from JFK Airport to Costa Rica on Oct. 31 to celebrate her recent retirement when the bizarre, very British brouhaha unfolded as she searched for a bin to toss the remnants of her in-flight tea, she said in a lawsuit.

The 74-year-old granny of four, who lives in Jersey in the United Kingdom and once worked as a flight attendant, claims she was in the loo while the cabin crew came around collecting trash, and she simply placed hers on the counter in the galley when she couldn’t find a garbage can, according to court papers.

The next thing she knew, a female crew member who was “unusually loud and verbally aggressive” falsely accused her of throwing the cup in the galley, according to court documents.

When Siddell asked for their name and employee identification number, the worker refused.

The cabin crew also wouldn’t give Siddell the name of the pilot, or even provide a complaint form or paper for her to write out her gripe — so she used a barf bag instead.

The situation allegedly became violent when Siddell walked to the rear of the plane to read the name tag of the flight attendant who’d accused her, only to have the crew member grab her wrist “while another JetBlue cabin crew member shoved [her] in the back with great force,” she contends in court papers filed against the airline.

Siddell hit her head on the plane’s rear exit door and was handcuffed with her arms behind her back before the flight was diverted to Orlando, where she and her travel partner were booted.

She’s seeking unspecified damages.

JetBlue didn’t respond to a request for comment.
