Giants interview Saints’ running back coach Joel Thomas

[ad_1]

The Giants’ search for a fourth different running backs coach in the past four years started with the picture of stability.

Joel Thomas, who has been the Saints running backs coach since 2015, interviewed Saturday, according to NFL Network.

He previously spent 13 years coaching running backs at the NCAA Division I FBS level.

After Burton Burns held the position for two years for the Giants under Joe Judge, head coach Brian Daboll hired DeAndre Smith (who left to be the Colts running backs coach after one season) then Jeff Nixon (who left to be Syracuse’s offensive coordinator last week).

Whether it is Thomas, who has overseen five-time Pro Bowler Alvin Kamara’s entire career, or someone else who is hired to replace Nixon, the job comes with uncertainty.

Will Saquon Barkley return on a franchise tag or multiyear extension, or will the Giants let their best playmaker walk and add to a room led by Eric Gray and Gary Brightwell through free agency and the draft?
