Giants’ blocking for Daniel Jones is ‘malpractice’: Tiki Barber

Tiki Barber is concerned that the Giants are going to squander Daniel Jones.

Speaking on WFAN’s afternoon drive program “Evan & Tiki”, the ex-Giants running back expressed concern about how Jones is getting battered behind a beleaguered offensive line, a day after he left Sunday’s game against the Dolphins with a neck injury.

“If he can’t stay healthy because of the hits this quarterback is taking, then this $40 million a year contract gets wasted. It’s gone,” Barber said.

“Daniel Jones is durable, he’s tough, he’s strong, you love the kid because of how he wants to be a winner. But he’s getting obliterated, and I don’t know if I would want him back there with this offensive line.”

Jones has been pressured 82 times and sacked 28 times this season.

“You almost don’t want him back there for his health and his safety,” Barber continued.

“The Giants need to do something different, otherwise he’s not gonna make it through the season…It’s malpractice what they’re doing with him and the offensive line. It is so bad, I would be scared to be back there.”

Jones was on the receiving end of six sacks in Sunday’s blowout loss to the Dolphins, giving him the second-most among QBs this season.

“It’s tough,” tight end Darren Waller said after he was asked about all the hits Jones has taken this season.

“Football is a violent game. I don’t think people take into account that if you make it healthy out of any game, it’s a blessing. Just praying that it’s not anything serious for him and we can get him back as soon as possible.”

In a silver lining head coach Brian Daboll provided a positive note on Monday.

“I’d say we’re optimistic … I think he’s moving in the right direction,” Daboll said, referring to the chances Jones can start against the Bills on Sunday night.
