George Kittle snags entire turkey from NBC interview, tosses leg to fans after 49ers’ win

George Kittle appeared to enjoy some turkey during his postgame interview Thursday night, and then he made sure to grab enough — or, really, the entire turkey — so that some 49ers fans who traveled to Lumen Field in Seattle could enjoy it, too.

Kittle, who caught three passes for 19 yards in the 49ers’ 31-13 win, sprinted away from his interview with Melissa Stark while holding the turkey platter and ended up near the tunnel by the locker room, where he threw a leg from the platter toward a cluster of fans.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel tossed a turkey leg into the stands, too.

Both players played pivotal roles as the 49ers earned their third consecutive win and picked up a key NFC West victory — they now lead the Seahawks by two games, with one more meeting between the teams Dec. 10 — to move to 8-3, while running back Christian McCaffrey accounted for 139 total yards and two touchdowns.

Seattle’s offense struggled to generate any points against the 49ers defense, and quarterback Geno Smith, who entered the game dealing with a shoulder injury that was serious enough to make his gameday status uncertain, only threw for 180 yards and an interception.

The Seahawks also only rushed for 88 yards with starting running back Kenneth Walker out due to an oblique strain.

That allowed the 49ers to dominate and prevented the Seattle offense from keeping up, and that sparked the postgame turkey celebration on the field — with the formal turkey platter and interview, and then the unscripted one where Kittle snagged as many leftovers as he could.

“Look at this guy, he’s got the whole bird,” NBC play-by-play broadcaster Mike Tirico said. “He’s on the move.”

Kittle and the 49ers face the Eagles — the only team ahead of them in the NFC at 9-1 — next weekend, while the Seahawks, after losing for the third time in four games, travel to Dallas for a Thursday night game next week.
