France Backs West African Efforts to Make Niger Coup Fail

PARIS (Reuters) – France will help efforts by the West African regional grouping ECOWAS to make the army coup in Niger fail, the French overseas ministry mentioned on Saturday.
French Overseas Minister Catherine Colonna met with Niger Prime Minister Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou and the Niger ambassador in Paris on Saturday.
Earlier, Colonna mentioned the junta in Niamey had till Sunday at hand again energy, in any other case a risk by member nations of the Financial Neighborhood of West African States (ECOWAS) to stage a army intervention needed to be taken “very significantly”.
“The risk is credible,” she mentioned on French public radio.
