Evan Roberts rips ‘fat Rangers fans’ after Stadium Series win

Evan Roberts had a message for the “fat” Rangers fans celebrating their improbable 6-5 overtime win over the Islanders in Sunday’s Stadium Series.

“All you fat Rangers fans that walked out of that building last night, all pumped up, beating your chest, little brother this, little brother that, understanding it’s the same crap as if the game was played at UBS,” Roberts said Monday on WFAN. “You don’t get extra points because it was at MetLife Stadium.”

Roberts certainly was salty after his Islanders choked away a two-goal lead with less than five minutes remaining at the outdoor spectacle at MetLife Stadium.

The Isles led 4-1 and 5-3 but could not close the door, allowing the game-tying goal with 1:29 remaining in regulation before yielding the game-winning goal 10 seconds into overtime.

Roberts went on his rant Monday while discussing a conversation he had with his son about the significance of the game.

“My youngest son says, ‘What does it mean, dada? What does it mean?’ And I cursed out the Islanders and I explained what it means about them and how much they stink and how Lou Lamoriello is living on a free pass and all that,” Roberts said on “Evan & Tiki” alongside Tiki Barber. “And then I realized — looked into his young eyes and said: ‘It doesn’t mean anything, son.’ This was a regular hockey game. It was typical of the Islanders all season long. It was no different from the crap we saw a month ago or two months ago. It’s the same. It was dressed up beautifully and, yes, we were all locked in.”

Roberts’ comments were also seemingly fueled by noted Rangers fan and co-host Shaun Morash reveling in the win, with Morash later claiming it will be included on the championship DVD.

The Rangers lead the Metropolitan Division with 75 points, while the Islanders are on the outside of the playoff picture with 58 points.

Said Roberts of Rangers fans: “Here’s the other thing: Stop acting like you’re the Yankees, you’ve won one cup in 70 years.”
