Elon Musk joins Trump, Republicans to slam rumored Senate border deal

Elon Musk joined Donald Trump and Republican critics to denounce the contentious Senate border deal that President Joe Biden touted as the “toughest and fairest set of reforms.”

“No laws need to be passed” to halt the US border crisis, Musk, the world’s richest person, posted on X — calling it “undeniable” that Biden has pursued an “open border” policy.

“All that is needed is an executive order to require proof before granting an asylum hearing,” the Tesla and SpaceX CEO — a legal immigrant from South Africa — wrote Friday. “That is how it used to be.”

Trump on Saturday railed against the still-secret border deal that has reportedly been hammered out by a bipartisan group of senators.

“Just 3 years ago we had the strongest and safest Border in U.S. History,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Today we have a catastrophe waiting to happen … an open wound in our once great Country.”

“A BAD BORDER DEAL IS FAR WORSE THAN NO BORDER DEAL!” he added.

The still-under-wraps agreement, if passed, would reportedly trigger partial or full border closures if illegal crossings exceed 4,000 per day — in effect, permitting 1.5 million or more new migrants into the country each year.

“It looks like a bill … that generally baselines this level so much higher than even the Obama administration,” Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) told Politico Saturday. “To me, that looks like a Democratic victory.”

Sen. Mike Lee of Utah also expressed skepticism.

“They’ve already got power to ‘close the border to migrants illegally crossing the border’,” Lee posted on X. “Isn’t that the whole point of our immigration laws?”

Speaker Mike Johnson, in a letter to his GOP colleagues Friday, said the rumored border deal would be “dead on arrival” in the Republican-majority House of Representatives.
