Following a scary moment during the Jets’ 37-20 loss to the Browns on Thursday night, Elijah Moore is back at home from the hospital and in concussion protocol, the team said Friday.
Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski gave the update on his wide receiver on Friday afternoon, saying Moore is “doing better,” per ESPN.
“He is in concussion protocol, so we’ll just work through that over the next few days with him, but glad that he’s back home,” the head coach said, according to the Washington Post.
In the final minutes of the first half, Browns quarterback Joe Flacco ripped a pass on a second-and-7 attempt that Moore, 23, caught for a first down and more before he was taken down hard, slamming his head into the ground, at the hands of Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley.
Shortly after the hit, Moore started shaking on the ground before running back Jerome Ford gestured for the trainers to come on the field.
The former Jet of two seasons eventually got up and was helped off the field to the injury tent and later walked to the locker room on his own accord with 25 seconds remaining in the half.
“It’s a shame that Elijah kind of got tackled on his head there, but I’m really happy for him the way he stepped up tonight and had a big game for us,” Browns quarterback Joe Flacco said after the game, per the Akron Beacon Journal.
Moore finished the first half with five catches for 61 yards, including an eight-yard touchdown, in his first game against his former team.
He has tallied 59 receptions for 640 yards and two touchdowns this season.
He was drafted by the Jets in the second round (34th overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Mississippi.
In two seasons in New York, he had 80 receptions for 984 yards and six touchdowns.
