Eagles’ NFL opener in Brazil will be Peacock streaming exclusive

The NFL continues to add to the trickle of streaming-exclusive matchups.
The league announced Tuesday that the Eagles’ opening game of the 2024 NFL season, taking place on Friday, Sept. 6 from Sao Paolo, Brazil, will air exclusively on NBC’s Peacock streaming service.
It is not yet known who the Eagles’ opponent will be at that time, though Packers president Mark Murphy recently suggested that the NFL is deciding between Green Bay and Cleveland.
This is the second game of the 2024 NFL regular season, as the Super Bowl champion Chiefs are slated to host the league’s opener the night before.
Last season, Peacock spent $110 million to air an exclusive NFL playoff game, which wound up being Chiefs versus Dolphins, and NBC Sports president Rick Cordella told The Post that there is a “halo effect” of customers signing up for the streaming service for sports and sticking around for scripted entertainment.
Shows on Peacock include the entire libraries of “Saturday Night Live,” “The Office” and “Yellowstone” as well as original series like “Bel-Air” and “Poker Face.”
“It’s more or less, get them in the door with football, and expose them to the library, which we think is one of the best — if not the best — in streaming,” Cordella said in January.
“It’s a lot more than just this football game. You see reasonable people complaining, and then they realize what it is beyond a one-time NFL streamer.”
Elsewhere in sports, Peacock airs exclusive games in the English Premier League, Big Ten football and basketball and WWE’s premium live events, plus simulcasts of essentially everything that airs on NBC, such as “Sunday Night Football” and the Olympics.
The NFL wild-card round game that aired on Peacock this past season will be moving over to Amazon next year, the league confirmed on Tuesday.
There are also several regular season games each year that air exclusively on ESPN+.
