Cops baffled by influx of reports of public sex on Palm Springs trail

Apparently In-N-Out isn’t the only place in California that does things “animal style.”

A little-used trail in Palm Springs is suddenly the center of a local scandal as residents report sightings of people using the spot for public sex.

Authorities are investigating reports of “lewd conduct” on the Bud Furer Equestrian Trail near the shuttered Bel Air Greens golf course, the Palm Springs Police Department (PSPD) announced earlier this month.

“We believe that people are using dating/hook-up apps to arrange these meet-ups,” PSPD Lieutenant Gustavo Araiza told SFGate, adding that there have been “at least five” direct complaints about the issue.

It is also “safe to assume” that individuals may be scoping out the spot for potential hookup partners, also known as “cruising,” Araiza said.

The department’s attempts to interrupt the trysts have resulted in very little intel on why the trail is so popular.

“In our limited interactions with those we have contacted near the location, we have yet to obtain specific information about the ‘how,’” Araiza admitted.

“We have heard that it is predominantly males, and our interactions have been with males. But in a recent meeting with our LGBTQ Committee, I was told that females have frequented the location as well,” he told SFGate.

The Palm Springs Police Department did not immediately return The Post’s request for a comment.

Palm Springs is not the only city struggling to quell public indecency: Last fall, cops were forced to step in when a park outside of Atlanta became a favorite destination for people looking copulate under the sun.

“You’re talking 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 11 p.m., and this is not what we want in this park,” resident Napoleon Black lamented at the time.
