Colorado State gets penalty for fans throwing snowballs at Air Force bench

The snowy weather during the Colorado State-Air Force game on Saturday in Fort Collins prompted Rams fans to throw snowballs at the Falcons’ bench.
It ended up costing their team.
When the game was tied up at 13 mere seconds into the third quarter, Colorado State was issued a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty for the snowball-throwing after receiving a warning from officials, who saw fans throwing snowballs at the Air Force bench at the end of the first half, according to CBS Sports Network.
“Unsportsmanlike conduct on the Colorado State bench,” the referee said over his microphone. “Will the audience please refrain from throwing snowballs?”
The penalty turned a second down into a first down at Air Force’s 49-yard-line and the Falcons ended the drive with a touchdown run from quarterback Zac Larrier to take a 20-13 lead.
Colorado State did not score in the second half as Air Force won, 30-13.
The snowball effort didn’t seem to throw off Air Force, as they stayed undefeated and atop the Mountain West conference standings with a 5-0 conference record and an 8-0 overall record.
The Falcons currently hold the highest AP ranking of any Group of Five team and are currently on pace to become the first service academy program to reach a New Year’s Six bowl game.
In the Rams’ second season under head coach Jay Norvell, they ended Saturday’s game on a seven-game losing streak against the Falcons and currently sit in 11th place in the 12-team conference with a 1-3 conference record (3-5 overall).
Colorado State’s next matchup is against the Wyoming Cowboys on Nov. 3.
