Biden fans Jan. 6 flames amid GOP mockery on Capitol riot anniversary

President Biden offered a meek echo of his mud-slinging rant against former president Donald Trump as he marked the anniversary of the 2021 Capitol riot on social media Saturday.

“Three years ago, a violent mob fueled by lies attacked the U.S. Capitol,” Biden wrote on X. “Our democracy was tested. But it held because We the People prevailed.”

The post came one day after Biden sought to boost his re-election bid by branding Trump a “loser” who speaks “the same exact language used in Nazi Germany” in a scorched-earth speech that branded Jan. 6, 2021 as “the day that we nearly lost America.”

But on Saturday, Biden avoided such rhetorical extremes — saying only that “American democracy” is “a promise to be kept.”

In a nearly identical post that she repeated in a speech in South Carolina, Vice President Kamala Harris recalled “a mob” that “invaded the United States Capitol” with “brutal force and fear.”

Meanwhile, Republicans slammed their opponents for hyping the riot’s third anniversary for political gain.

“Happy Fake Insurrection Day!!!” Donald Trump Jr. snarked on X. “The first ever insurrection with armed tour guides and unarmed participants!”

In Iowa, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis scolded Biden for “saying the people that supported Trump were basically enemies of the state.”

“Biden had a chance to be a uniter for this country and he has failed,” DeSantis told Fox News. “He has chosen division every step of the way …waved the bloody shirt and tried to impugn tens of millions of Americans.”

Trump himself, at a rally in Newton, Iowa, blasted Biden’s speech as “ridiculous.”

“He can’t talk about any of the things that he’s done. He’s got no successes,” Trump said at Des Moines Area Community College.

“All he can talk about is, we’re a threat to democracy,” the former president complained. “But he’s a threat to democracy … a complete and total failure as a president, and everyone knows it.”

Trump has been criminally charged with obstruction, conspiracy against civil rights, and conspiracy to defraud the US government — but not with participating in an insurrection — in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and the 2020 election aftermath.
