Biden campaign boasts $42M haul in January, $130M cash on hand

President Biden’s re-election operation raked in more than $42 million last month, bringing his available war chest up to $130 million, according to his campaign.

The haul included funds raised by the Biden-Harris campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and their joint fundraising committees. Since the 81-year-old president launched his re-election effort in April, his team has raised nearly $278 million.

“January’s fundraising haul – driven by a powerhouse grassroots fundraising program that continues to grow month by month – is an indisputable show of strength to start the election year,” campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement.

The Biden campaign added that January marked the “strongest grassroots fundraising month” since the chief executive began his bid for a second term.

At the same point in the 2020 cycle, Donald Trump had hauled in over $60 million and touted some $200 million cash on hand.

Trump’s team has not yet divulged its money-raising totals for January, and has until midnight Tuesday to do so.

Last year, Trump’s operation and allies raised a total of $188 million, with over $65 million in cash for the former president by the year’s end.

At the end of December, the Biden campaign had roughly $117 million cash on hand, including the DNC money.

The 45th president has not yet fully merged his operations with the Republican National Committee amid the ongoing GOP presidential primary.

However, earlier this month, Trump rolled out his picks for RNC leadership, which included having key allies such as senior campaign adviser Chris LaClivta serve as COO, with daughter-in-law Lara Trump becoming co-chair.

The Biden campaign also boasted Tuesday that it had added 1 million emails to its list and raised $1 million per day after the Republican Iowa Caucus Jan. 15.

“January’s unprecedented fundraising numbers underscore the grassroots momentum to send Joe Biden and Kamala Harris back to the White House, and elect Democrats up and down the ballot this November,” DNC Chair Jaime Harrison said in a statement.

Trump has tapped his war chest to help foot his legal expenses, with several super PACs backing the 45th president spending close to $48 million on those costs, according to an analysis from the Wall Street Journal last month.

Meanwhile, the RNC suffered its worst fundraising year in three decades in 2023, if adjusted for inflation.

The RNC took in $87.2 million and finished off the year with roughly $8 million cash on hand, per the Federal Election Commission.

By contrast, the DNC hauled $119 million and concluded the year with around $21 million cash on hand, according to the FEC.
