Adam Fox joins Rangers on road trip in positive injury sign

DALLAS — With at least a week and a half left in his stint on long-term injured reserve, Adam Fox is accompanying the Rangers on this two-game road trip.

The 25-year-old defenseman was on the ice in a red noncontact jersey for the Blueshirts’ morning skate on Monday.

He participated in a majority of the drills and then remained on the ice afterward for extra work with scratched blueliner Connor Mackey.

“I think it’s just the next step,” head coach Peter Laviolette said of bringing Fox on the road trip before the Rangers faced the Stars at American Airlines Center. “It’s a chance to work with him. We’re here, so to bring him on the road and get him some extra work off the ice and on the ice. I think that’s important in the progression.”

The uptick in Fox’s recovery regiment is a positive sign for his anticipated return on Nov. 29 against the Red Wings.

It’s unclear if the 2021 Norris Trophy winner will be 100 percent healthy by the time he’s eligible to come off LTIR, but the fact that he’s resumed skating with the team can only mean he’s trending in that direction.

In 10 games this season, Fox racked up three power-play goals and eight assists before his knee-on-knee collision with Carolina forward Sebastian Aho.
