Canada Suspends Direct Development Assistance to the Government of Niger

(Reuters) – Canada will droop direct growth help to the federal government of Niger in response to the tried coup d’état within the West African nation, the federal authorities stated on Saturday.

A navy junta overthrew Niger’s democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum and his authorities on July 26, the seventh navy takeover in lower than three years in West and Central Africa.

West African defence chiefs have drawn up a plan for navy motion if Niger’s coup isn’t overturned by Sunday.

“Canada stands with the worldwide group and expresses its help to the ECOWAS mediation efforts for the return of constitutional order in Niger. The democratically elected authorities have to be reinstated instantly,” Canada’s Minister of International Affairs Melanie Joly stated in a press release.

The suspension will embody Canada’s direct budgetary help to the Authorities of Niger, the assertion added.
