Piper plane crashes in ocean
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating after a small aircraft crashed into the Atlantic Ocean alongside Myrtle Seaside, South Carolina on Monday, the second such crash alongside the East Coast in a matter of days.
The wreck came about about 11:30 a.m. close to the fortieth Avenue public seashore entry, the FAA informed USA TODAY.
The only-engine Piper PA-18 was towing a banner when it crashed and solely the pilot was on board, a FAA spokesperson confirmed.
The Nationwide Transportation Security Board can be investigating the crash.
Pilot taken to a hospital
Myrtle Seaside Police Division Sgt. Christopher D. Starling informed USA TODAY the pilot was handled at a close-by hospital for non-life-threatening accidents.
The aircraft remained within the ocean for a number of hours till crews towed it out as beachgoers appeared on, officers mentioned.
Starling mentioned police are working with the FAA, the Coast Guard, the South Carolina Division of Pure Sources in connection to the crash.

Second seashore banner aircraft crash in days
