Montana Rep. Zooey Zephyr sues Republican management for censure vote


State Democratic Rep. Zooey Zephyr, the primary brazenly transgender lady elected to Montana’s legislature, is suing Republican leadership after they voted to censure her for feedback she made criticizing her colleagues over a invoice limiting gender-affirming well being care.

“I am suing,” she tweeted Monday. “The latest actions violate my first modification rights, in addition to the rights of my 11,000 constituents to illustration. Montana’s State Home is the folks’s Home, not Speaker Regier’s, and I’m decided to defend the best of the folks to have their voices heard.”

The American Civil Liberties Union of Montana, together with a number of attorneys, filed the lawsuit on her behalf in state courtroom Monday towards the state of Montana, Home Speaker Matt Regier and Sergeant at Arms Bradley Murfitt. The lawsuit alleges House leadership’s actions are a violation of Zephyr’s first modification rights.
