US Justice Dept Sues Norfolk Southern Over Ohio Prepare Derailment

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Justice Division on Thursday filed a lawsuit in opposition to Norfolk Southern Corp over the Feb. 3 practice derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.

The lawsuit filed on behalf of the Environmental Safety Company seeks damages for alleged Clear Water Act violations.

The derailment of 38 automobiles together with 11 carrying hazardous supplies led to the discharge over 1 million gallons of hazardous supplies, Ohio’s legal professional normal has mentioned. The state of Ohio filed a lawsuit in opposition to Norfolk Southern earlier this month.

The U.S. lawsuit seeks to carry Norfolk Southern “accountable for unlawfully polluting the nation’s waterways and to make sure it pays the total price of the environmental cleanup.”
