Kelly Stafford: Lions fans crossed the line with one thing

Kelly Stafford “loved the atmosphere” in her return to Detroit for the Rams’ 24-23 loss in the wild-card game on Sunday — until she heard boos aimed at her four children.
Kelly — who shares daughters, Tyler, 3, Hunter, 5, and 6-year-old twins Sawyer and Chandler with Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford — posted a message on her Instagram Story about the fan behavior after someone commented, “f Detroit,” under a photo of the family hugging on the sidelines at Ford Field.
“Enough with the Detroit love, they showed their true colors f them,” the person wrote, seemingly referring to the boos Stafford received when he ran out onto the field before the loss.
Kelly and Stafford’s return to Detroit was significant, as their four daughters were born in Detroit during the quarterback’s 12-year tenure with the Lions — before he was traded to the Rams for then-Los Angeles quarterback Jared Goff, two first-round picks and a third-round selection in January 2021.
It was also Stafford’s first time back at Ford Field since the blockbuster trade.
“It’s sports,” Kelly wrote over a screenshot of the fan’s comment. “The city wants to win. Everything is fair game…
“Except the fans who booed my children.. other than that, I loved the atmosphere and the booing just gave my husband more fire.
“The more you love, the more you hate. I consider it all love going both ways. And now that we are out.. I hope the Lions bring home a Lombardi to that city because that feeling is like no other. Go get it.”
In a separate post, Kelly praised her husband for his dedication to the game and explained why she’s excited for next season.
“You always get everything for this man,” Kelly wrote over a clip of the quarterback walking off of the field. “So damn excited for this team next year.
“A year no one thought we could do anything.. these young guys showed the f out. A lot to build on.. get ready, this team will be back next year and I’m so damn excited for it.”
The “Morning After” podcast host also shared a photo of the family on the sidelines.
“What a season.. and for it to end at ford field ♥️,” she wrote. “Already excited for this Rams team next season.. And he will be back next year Detroit, but until then, go get you one!!!”
The Rams finished the regular season with a 10-7 record before their year ended with the loss in Detroit.
Stafford, who played with a bandaged hand after splitting it open on a collision with a defender’s helmet, finished 25-of-36 for 367 yards and two touchdowns.
Taking to her Instagram this week, Kelly expressed her excitement to return to Detroit with her family.
Kelly and her daughters visited Stafford Field at the Lipke Rec Center in Detroit, which was donated by Stanford’s Score 7 foundation in partnership with the city of Detroit and S.A.Y. Detroit in 2015.
Kelly, who has been married to Stafford since 2015, previously opened up about the culture shock of relocating to LA after spending over a decade in Detroit.
They have since acclimated well to sunny California, where Stafford led the Rams to a victory in Super Bowl 2022 at SoFi Stadium — earning the first championship title of his career.
The Rams roster saw a major turnover after its championship run, and missed the 2022 playoffs.
Stafford also sat out the conclusion of the 2022 season with a spinal cord contusion, as Los Angeles finished with a dismal 5-12 record.
