Knicks’ Josh Hart brutally trolls ‘loser’ Jose Alvarado over plans for tourney prize money

If the Pelicans come away as champions of the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament, Jose Alvarado has some kind-hearted plans for his share of the prize money.

But Knicks forward/guard Josh Hart wasn’t having any of it.

Speaking with Andscape about his plans if New Orleans won the tourney — meaning he would get an extra $500,000 — the 25-year-old Alvarado had a selfless idea for what to do with the cash.

“I will not touch the money,” Alvarado said. “My financial team will act like I never made it. It’s not for me. It’s not in my hands. I’m living my life. They got to live their lives and I don’t want them to struggle at all. This is the first time I’m telling everybody. I just know what I want to do.

“I ain’t struggling now. I’m blessed to be financially good,” he said. “So why do I need to add that extra load? Let that grow and let them have it. I ain’t going to see it. I promise. I ain’t going to touch it. It’s a great opportunity to do that. A lot of people aren’t that fortunate, but I am. I just want this game to keep me blessed and I don’t want my kids to worry about nothing.”

Alvarado signed a four-year deal in 2022 with $3,063,518 of it guaranteed, so to him, the $500,000 first-place prize, or even $200,000 for coming in as a runner-up, is a nice chunk of money, but one that he doesn’t immediately need.

But Hart, whose Knicks were eliminated from the tournament when they were walloped by the Bucks on Tuesday night, seemed to think Alvarado should spend more on himself.

“What a loser. Go get you some ice,” Hart, who joked about getting himself a new watch if the Knicks earned some prize money, wrote on X with two gem emojis.

The post seemed to be in jest, as the two played with each other for half a season together in New Orlans during the 2021-22 season.

Users on X seemed to find Hart’s comments to be pretty humorous.

“Brb buying a Josh Hart jersey,” wrote one user.

“It’s tough executing sarcasm on Twitter Lmaoo,” wrote another.

However, at least one use thought Hart didn’t mean to post it on his account.

“Josh this is your real account not a burner,” they wrote.

Alvarado will get a chance to lock down some sort of prize money on Thursday when the Pelicans take on LeBron James and the Lakers in the semifinal round.

Hart will only be able to scoop up some ice with his own salary with the Knicks bounced from the new tourney.
